Aidan's Story
For some reason I have agreed to challenge myself and run The London Marathon on April 21st 2024. It wont come as a shock to anyone that knows me to acknowledge this is something very unlike me. Putting my body through unnecessary pain, but at the end of last year my Mother-In-Law was diagnosed with early signs of breast cancer so I thought to raise as much awareness for a good cause seemed the least I could do. For some reason I have agreed to challenge myself and run The London Marathon on April 21st 2024. It wont come as a shock to anyone that knows me to acknowledge this is something very unlike me. Putting my body through unnecessary pain, but at the end of last year my Mother-In-Law was diagnosed with early signs of breast cancer so I thought to raise as much awareness for a good cause seemed the least I could do. Having this so close to home I did some research and came across a charity in Scotland that lends its hand directly to those affected with breast cancer:
The House Of Hope
When people are diagnosed, trying to navigate accessing support services, mental health, side effects and treatments can be very overwhelming and not to mention expensive especially when many can’t work alongside treatment. The House of Hope will fill that void. Their vision is to improve the quality of life for people impacted by breast cancer by establishing the first bespoke breast cancer support and wellbeing centre in Scotland, providing access to funded wellbeing and holistic therapies and services away from the sterile hospital or clinical setting to complement medical treatment. The centre will offer a sanctuary for those impacted by breast cancer in any way or at any stage. Through the provision of fully funded, specifically tailored, workshops, classes, and support groups to empower participants, tackle social isolation because of a breast cancer diagnosis and provide a community to help service users feel connected.
